Taiwana Shambley

Organizer - No Kids in MN Prisons
Taiwana Shambley (she/her/hers) is an organizer, writer, and community educator from Saint Paul, Minnesota. She graduated from Augsburg University in 2021 with a B.A. in English (creative writing emphasis) and African American Studies (radical social movements). Coming to age in St. Paul’s seasoned arts and organizing communities, Taiwana's history includes helping form Augsburg’s new Department of Critical Race and Ethnicity Studies as part of a coalition of students, faculty and staff, facilitating several youth centered classes and workshops in schools across St. Paul, and serving as a youth organizer and programming associate for the arts & culture organization TruArtSpeaks. A firm believer in the premise that young people wield radical imaginations, Taiwana is passionate about applying prison industrial complex abolition, Black Communist thought, and Ella Baker’s model of de-hierarchical leadership to visions for youth justice in Minnesota. She's humbled to join the Legal Rights Center, and are excited to amplify this work in her role as the Organizer of the No Kids in MN Prisons Campaign. If you see her in community, chop it up about your freedom dreams!
