The LRC is seeking a new Executive Director

ARE YOU READY TO LEAD US INTO THE FUTURE?
Celebrating our 50th year of providing the highest quality criminal defense and restorative justice services working with clients from diverse communities, the Legal Rights Center is looking for a visionary, collaborative, confident, accomplished and passionate Executive Director with a track record of success in non-profit, community-based organization and/or business management, leadership and growth.

Our next Executive Director will build on a strong foundation, a storied history of community involvement, innovative service offerings, and a highly-skilled, admired and innovative staff. Working with a board comprised of members from the Native American, African American, and immigrant communities as well as members from the legal community, our next Executive Director must have a community-oriented mindset, social entrepreneurial and team-building/people development skills, financial and fundraising acumen, and a clear focus on the strategies and tactics essential for fulfilling its mission to obtain fair and equitable justice for its clients.
AS OUR NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR YOU WILL:
Lead the organization under direction of the Board. Serve as the face of the organization. Build trusted relationships with diverse communities. Drive innovation and growth. Guide and develop the board. Direct and manage finances. Direct and manage administration, IT and facilities. Secure ongoing and develop new revenue sources. Actively manage and develop the staff.

OUR NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR WILL HAVE THESE ESSENTIAL ATTRIBUTES:
  • Stature in a relevant field.
  • Strong relationship building and management skills working with diverse communities.
  • Excellent leadership skills, including public speaking, strong writing skills, and the ability to communicate persuasively with highly diverse audiences.
  • Ability to lead, manage and work in a highly dynamic and fast paced environment.
  • Ability to build engagement and consensus while simultaneously being able to have challenging conversations.

OUR NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR WILL HAVE THESE PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of 10-12 years’ experience of increasingly more responsible nonprofit and/or community-based organization management and program direction preferred. If your professional experience is in business management, please demonstrate your volunteer involvement in and leadership of nonprofit/community-based organizations in your application materials.
  • While not required, experience with criminal defense, restorative justice practices, public policy, community advocacy, youth-focused social work, or community-based legal services management preferred.
  • A graduate degree in nonprofit management, public policy, business administration; or, a JD or PhD, preferred. However, if you have a successful track record of nonprofit/community-based organization management experience but no degree, please tell us why we should consider you over those with our preferred credentials.
  • Demonstrated, successful track record with fund development from a variety of sources including, but not limited to, government contracts, grants, individual donors, corporate and law firm donors, entrepreneurial earned income sources, etc.
  • While not required, experience and success in working with nonprofit boards of directors including governance, board development, leadership development, board engagement and over-all relationship management preferred.
  • Experience with public speaking, advocacy, public policy development and systems change.
  • Experience in managing and/or knowledge of how to manage nonprofit back office functions including Administration/Office/Facilities Management, Information Technology, Accounting, Legal, and Human Resources.

COMPENSATION:
Compensation for this position is in the range of $70,000 to $80,000 annually based
upon qualifications and experience.
