MABL Presents: Preparing for Protests - Legal Observer and Know Your Rights Training by NLG and LRC8/7/2020
Interested in supporting protesters during this critical time of public uprising by using your legal expertise but not quite sure how? Join the Minnesota Association of Black Lawyers, the Minnesota Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild and Legal Rights Center on September 1 from 12-3pm for a free CLE on Preparing for Protests - Legal Observer & Know Your Rights Training. NLG will lead the first portion of the training by equipping law students and lawyers to become Legal Observers. LRC’s youth advocacy attorney, Chelsea Schmitz-Gillam, will lead the second portion of the training, which will focus on training law students and lawyers to become Know Your Rights trainers at protests and actions around the state. These Know Your Rights trainers will serve as a resource for protestors by providing education on protestors’ First Amendment rights, rules around curfew, and how best to protect their rights when stopped by police.
